Reds welcome Newport

Redruth prepare to take on Shropshire based Newport this weekend

On Saturday Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground for the first time Newport (Salop) RFC on what will both clubs longest trip of the season. Firstly, Newport are not from Wales they are in fact are from the beautiful county of Shropshire. So it's a good job that the first meetings between the sides is at home or else a few Redruth supporters (who will remain nameless) would have spent a Saturday afternoon in October aimlessly wandering around Rodney Parade looking bemused.

Newport run 2 senior sides, a Vets side, a touch rugby side a full mini-junior set up plus 4 age group women's sides. They were promoted to Level 3 after winning the Midlands Premier League last season.

Newport's results have a certain symmetry to Redruth's as they have won twice at home against Barnstaple and Bournville but have lost twice away, both heavily against Leicester Lions and Old Reds. Lets hope that there away form doesn't improve this weekend or they develop a liking for beating teams other than those beginning with 'B'. This leaves Newport in 8th place on 10 points.

The Reds come into this match after a 31-25 reverse against Hinckley a match that the Reds will put down as one that got away.
The Reds will be looking to continue their 100% maximum points home record on Saturday. With a won 2 lost 2 record with all games going the way of the home sides the Reds are in 6th place on 12 points.
