Pirates Fully Understand Ealing’s Strength

The challenge for the Pirates, who have moved up to fifth in the RFU Championship table, will inevitably be a tough one against the present leaders, as they have not won a league game at the Trailfinders Sports Ground since emerging 22-16 winners in December 2016.

A next fixture for the Cornish Pirates is a Round 18 league game away to Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Changes in the Cornish Pirates starting line-up this weekend sees hooker Morgan Nelson getting the nod to make his first league start and Olly Adkins named at loose-head prop.

Ben Grubb, who made his Pirates debut off the bench at London Scottish, is set to start in the number 8 shirt, James Fender returns on loan from Ospreys to partner Steele Barker in the second row, and another returnee is fit again wing Robin Wedlake.

Centre Rory Parata will once again skipper the side in the injured absence of club captain John Stevens, and listed among the replacements to provide backrow cover is Max Norey.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s contest, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver has commented:

“Fully understanding that Ealing Trailfinders form a strong side, and especially so at home, it will be important for us to approach the game in the right manner.

“We have picked up some bumps and bruises in training, and need to freshen up a couple of bodies this week, but having said that we also welcome certain guys back, some exciting young players, and as always we’ll travel well prepped.”

“The players know what is at stake and are going to get into the game and see what happens, which we need to do.”

The Cornish Pirates full selection for Saturday is as follows:
