Argyle can confirm defender James Wilson will depart the club upon the expiration of his contract.

Wilson was offered a new contract to stay with the Pilgrims ahead of a return to the Sky Bet Championship but the deadline for this offer has now expired.

As a result, the offer has been withdrawn and the 34-year-old will seek pastures new ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Manager Steven Schumacher wishes Wilson the best for the future and commented: "James played a huge part in our success last season and will forever be a part of the history of this football club.

"It is a shame we won't see him in an Argyle shirt again but I wish James all the best moving forward and thank him for all his hard work and commitment during my time at the club."

Director of Football Neil Dewsnip echoed the sentiments of Schumacher and added: "James has been a loyal servant to this football club and been a big character both on and off the pitch.

"Players departing is part and parcel of football and we are working extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure we have a squad ready for Championship football."

Argyle would like to thank James for his hard work and dedication during his time with the club and wish him well for the future.
