The tide has turned—Falmouth’s much-loved Pink Wig Parade is sailing ahead once more, now with a new ‘Mermaid March’ theme and an exciting silent disco party!
Rescued and refreshed while staying true to its roots, the event will now be delivered by Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and Falmouth Town Team, all in aid of The Mermaid Centre—Cornwall’s dedicated breast cancer facility.
Earlier this year, thousands of Pink Wig supporters were disappointed when it was announced the event would no longer take place. But now, thanks to a powerful new partnership, the Pink Wig Parade will live on!

“Ladies from across Cornwall and beyond, it’s time to don your pink wigs and march for a cause that matters!” said Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity.
Kicking off Falmouth Week in spectacular style, The Pink Wig ‘Mermaid March’ will transform the streets into a sea of pink, uniting women in a powerful display of strength, support, and solidarity for those affected by breast cancer.
Richard Gates, Falmouth Town Manager shared the support for the event returning to the Falmouth Week line up,
“We’re incredibly proud to see the return of the Pink Wig Parade, and the evening within the marquee, to kickstart Falmouth Week in August, an event that means so much to the community.
Thanks to a new partnership between the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, Falmouth Town Council, Falmouth BID, Southwest Bars and Events, and the wider Falmouth Week Committee, we’ve been able to support and safeguard the future of the parade and the event as a whole, while staying true to its ethos. We recognise the dedication of the original organisers and are committed to honouring their vision as the event enters this exciting new chapter.”
With over 1,000 ladies expected to take part, the event will raise vital funds and awareness for The Mermaid Centre, the leading breast cancer diagnosis and treatment facility at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
“The parade, setting off from the Greenbank Hotel, will set the town alive with energy, followed by a new addition—a silent disco party! Expect an unforgettable night of music,
dancing, and fundraising, all to support The Mermaid Centre’s lifesaving work,” added Karen Murrish.
A Legacy of Giving
Since its inception, the Pink Wig Committee has raised over £220,000 for breast cancer charities, with an outstanding £119,000 donated directly to The Mermaid Centre.
The Pink Wig Committee have sent their best wishes as they stand down from the event.
“We would obviously like to wish The Royal Cornwall Hospital Charity Team all the very best with the event. We hope that it continues to be the success that we have worked so hard since 2010 to make it. Obviously, people raising vital funds for the Mermaid Centre remains close to our hearts despite us no longer continuing to run the event!
Good luck to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity Team and Falmouth Week Events with love from the Pink Wig Team x”
Iain Brown, Senior Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at The Mermaid Centre expressed his thanks to the Pink Wig Committee,
“On behalf of the entire Mermaid Centre family of dedicated professionals (nurses, assistants, radiologists, radiographers, secretaries, clerical staff, administrators, housekeepers, pathologists, oncologists, doctors and surgeons), I would like to express our immense gratitude to the incredible movement that the original Pink Wig Committee created and the contribution they have made to support breast cancer patients from across the county.
I have proudly walked alongside (although not in amongst!) the pink wig parade to show our support and I am delighted that their legacy will continue as the event is delivered by our own Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity; to continue raising vital funds to support the care we provide. With all the generous and continued support of our entire community, we will always strive to ensure that the breast care provided in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly is as good as anywhere in the world."
Staying true to its founding ethos, the Pink Wig Mermaid March will remain a ‘ladies-only’ event, ensuring a safe and empowering space for women to come together in unity.
“The Pink Wig Mermaid March is more than just an event—it’s a chance for women to stand together, to support those facing breast cancer, and to make a real difference in Cornwall. Every ticket sold helps enhance care for patients at The Mermaid Centre,” added Karen Murrish.
