Etherington’s Farm Shop is excited to announce that the Wheal Rose Road will officially reopen on November 15, 2024, after a prolonged closure that began earlier this year. The road was closed due to mining-related issues that required extensive work to resolve, and ongoing adverse weather conditions further delayed progress.
The road closure has caused significant disruption, particularly for local customers and tourists who regularly visit Etherington’s Farm Shop on their way to nearby beaches. The lack of access has resulted in a decline in anticipated footfall customers and has seen sales fall by a third since the road closure.
Despite these challenges, Mark Etherington, Managing Director of Etherington’s, is optimistic that the road’s re-opening will bring customers back and make it easier for loyal patrons who have continued to visit throughout the closure.
“We’re delighted that the Wheal Rose Road is finally reopening on November 15th,” said Mark Etherington. “It’s been a long and difficult wait, especially with the mining issues that needed to be resolved, and the weather delays only added to the frustration. This closure has had a major impact on our business. Not only have we lost local trade, but we also missed out on a large portion of the summer tourism business, as many visitors pop by on their way to and from the beaches. The closure also created challenges with our deliveries, as we’ve had to use alternate, often complicated routes for our drivers.”
Etherington continued, “We want to express our sincere gratitude to the local community for their patience and support during this time. We know it hasn’t been easy for anyone, and we truly appreciate everyone sticking with us.”
To celebrate the road's re-opening, Etherington’s is giving away 50 free pasties to the first 50 customers who visit on November 15th. (One pasty per paying customer, while stocks last.)
“We are looking forward to welcoming back our regular customers, as well as new faces who will now have easier access to the farm shop,” said Etherington. “The road re-opening is a positive step forward, and we’re excited to be back to normal service and continuing to support our local community.”
